Old map of Japan taken from an old book.

Dawn of the final day

Flights are set, hotels are booked, and itinerary is planned out.

Tomorrow, Corrine and I will leave for a trip more than a decade in the making. A trip to Japan to see the sights, eat the foods, appreciate the history, and maybe, even practice the language a bit. Previously scheduled for 2020 to celebrate my 40th birthday, life decided I needed to wait a few more years as we all relearned the lessons of health, safety, and community.

The extra time has allowed me a great chance to double down on learning Japanese. I took the JLPT N4 last year to test my proficiency. I failed, but it was an achievement to just be able to sit down and take that test. I didn’t stop there, either. I started seeing a tutor to ramp up before the trip.

I am greatly looking forward to putting all of these learnings to use.

In the meantime, I have to go pack.
