swapping Nagano for Ueno.
Nikko was such a great adventure, but it was a bit exhausting. We changed plans a bit. Originally we planned to go to Nagano, but switched it up and stayed in the Tokyo area and went to the Ueno Zoo.
Corrine was rather excited about the aye aye on her ticket. I thought it looked a little terrifying.
Seemed like the elephants weren’t going to come out of there feeding area for us so we walked to the other side of the enclosure.
Lo and behold, a big male was resting on the other side of this big dirt pile. Turned out it was about to be feeding time.
We may not have gone to Nagano to see the snow monkeys, but we still managed to see some. Done if them were being a bit aggressive closer to the edge of the enclosure. The rest were happy laze about everywhere else. They blend in really well with the rock.
I was haircut to see the rhinos. There were two. We were lucky enough to see one defecate against a wall, then have post-poop zoomies.
The Pallas cats were quite the draw. A lot of folks were crowded around to see this adorable guy pace around.
We came across this species of turtle I had never seen before. He’s got a little pig snoot.
The zoo didn’t feel that crowded with the exception of the pandas. They had cubs about two years ago and are now on exhibit. The line to see them was almost an hour long in the sunny 90+ degree heat. Not worth it. It was hard enough to just stay hydrated faster than we were sweating it out.
One last pogoda picture before we left the zoo.
After wrapping up at the zoo, we decided to head to Kappabanshi kitchenware district. I didn’t really take any photos because we were a bit rushed. It turned out that nearly all the shops close at 17:00 and we got there about 16:30. We were still able to score a few really nice knives though. I think we both would have liked a bit more time to look around, but we made good use of what little time we had.
