Birthday 2008 Part 2: The Cake was not a lie

Day 2 started with me groggily getting out of bed, grabbing my work laptop and heading into the basement. An hour later, I had the network back up with access to the internet. Unfortunately, I ended up having to reset my router causing me to lose all of my security settings and MAC addresses for each laptop allowed on our network. Fortunately, I wrote most of them down in my little black book. This was followed by futzing around a bit online, checking e-mail, message boards and news sites, then starting to do a little packing.

The Power of Snap

Quality I possess something I’m fresh
When my voice goes through the rest
Of the microphone that I am holdin’
Copywritten lyrics so they can’t be stolen
If they are snap
Don’t need the police to try to save them
Your voice will sink so please stay off my back
Or I will attack and you don’t want that

-Snap “Power”

Its as if he knew I would want to download this song over fifteen years later…

Do you think he has a way to keep track of who steals his lyrics and travels cross country, going door-to-door handing out beatdowns?

*Ding Dong*

Oh! Snap!

Bitchin

Donnas - Bitchin

I was looking through the Newbury Comics new music newsletter for last week and noticed that there was a new Donnas album coming out. I was a huge fan of ‘Spend the Night’, but their follow-up album, ‘Gold Medal’ fell a bit flat for me. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who felt that way either. I still liked ‘Spend the Night’ more than enough to be glad to search out their new album ‘Bitchin’ on the internets. I finally got around to giving it a listen last night.

I am delighted to say that the album rocks. Literally.

It is a happy return to their heavier rock style from ‘Spend the Night’ (which is still on heavy rotation on my MP3 player). They totally turn it up with more guitars and a heavy influence of 80’s rock hair band that is more than apparent.

This album will be purchased the next time I’m in Newbury Comics. I support bands that put out good music. As rare as that is lately.

Here is a good review.

Absolute Garbage

Nearly anyone that knows me is pretty well aware that Garbage, without a doubt, my favorite band.

One week ago, a post was made at Garbage.com saying “Greatest Hits Album coming soon!” along with the following image.

Absolute Garbage

Color me excited! I have all their stuff already, but I’ll gladly give them more money in the hopes they do another new album.

Hey Miss Murder can I…?

I bought the new AFI album this past week and I have to say I’m definitely digging it. I really loved the last album, Sing the Sorrow. Silver and Cold was probably my favorite track off that. This new album, Decemberunderground has some really catchy songs, but not in the annoying-repetitive-pop-kind-of-way. I put lyrics to the new single ‘Miss Murder’ after the jump.

Vow

I’ve been pretty busy lately with work and unpacking among other things, so I haven’t had as much time to do things I’d like to do like blog and work on a number of side projects I’ve been trying to get off the ground for what seems like forever. Whenever this happens I usually get a little down, which is the case in this instance. To the point where I’ve been pretty unmotivated to do anything I don’t absolutely have to do (like work. can’t not do that.). This is another reason for the lack of posting here and also for the past week or so at powet. Powet’s been eating up a good chunk of time as well, but thats the point of being a part of it; to spend time doing something I like.

I keep thinking about where my life is at the moment and can’t help but be dissatified. Not that things, aren’t going well. Thats entirely not the case. I’m now living in a fantastic house with two roommates I get along with really well. If I look back one year ago, I’m doing signicantly better now in the working world. I have a much better handle on the technologies I work with and how to use them and I think I’m getting better every day or at least I’m trying to make that happen. I’m also going out more with friends and generally enjoying life more.

Garbage Broadcast Part Deux

So a buddy of mine who was trying to record the broadcast on Thursday failed miserably, much to my chagrin.

On a positive note, later that day, I mentioned it to a friend and he linked me to the bootleg of the show in Atlanta 3 nights before. Quality isn’t as good as the WBCN one would have been, but its not fucking bad. I’m listening to it right now.

Thanks Zac.

Garbage Live Broadcast

Tonight, at Avalon, Garbage is playing. Unfortunately by the time I found out they were having a concert, the show was already sold out. Its too bad that WBCN, the local rock station in Boston, doesn’t have an RSS feed for stuff like that because I really would have like to have gone. Especially since I am working from home anyway tomorrow due to the running of the Annual Boston Marathon. Anyway, I found out this week that WBCN is going to record the concert and rebroadcast it on Thursday at noon.

They usually post audio of interviews with bands and stuff on their website, but I’ve never seen them post a full concert that they’ve re-aired. So now I’m trying to figure out how to record the broadcast since I’ll be at work and I’m not even certain I have the right stuff to do it with.
Can anybody help me out with this or give me some suggestions?
