Botcon 2010

I have finally gotten around to posting the gallery for Botcon 2010 on Orlando, Florida. Maybe sometime I’ll get to doing the gallery for 2009. Above you can see the obligatory group photo. Unfortunately, it was done very impromptu as Ernie and Rubin were trying to leave, so we couldn’t find Sam nor Robert in time to be in the photo.

There was lots to see this year. I took plenty of pictures of the display cases for upcoming product, the Transformers Hall of Fame and some random rare items found at various dealer booths. The image above is me holding one of the rarest items that was released at retail exclusively in Japan. That one, in particular, was on sale for US$1,000. Most of you don’t care about that though, so here is a picture of Sam ironing his shirt.

Next year will be back in Pasadena. Hopefully it won’t be quite so humid out.

Wishlist kind of updated

I updated my wishlist at the request of some friends. Ignore the ‘Older Stuff’ section. I need to clean that up.

Most of the update was me crossing things out that I had bought myself over the past year. I didn’t really add that much either. There’s just not a lot I’m looking for right now that I can think of off the top of my head, except maybe a TV that doesn’t give me eyestrain.

I seem to be a lot more interested these days in things I want to achieve, rather than things I want to acquire. I suppose thats a good thing.

I will add that between my apartment, lack of car, work and self-imposed responsibilities, I haven’t had much time to hang out with friends, which is pretty disappointing. Hopefully, we can remedy that before the summer is out.

FightingReality's new life

Well, I guess its safe to say at this point.

This site has been successfully upgraded to a newer version of WordPress. Version number will not be mentioned for security purposes.

The site is now hosted by a new company. After 10 years with Brinkster, I threw in the towel. They were great as eWebCity for free ASP hosting in college. They were good when I signed up for paid hosting and bought a domain. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t keep up with my needs for today. I needed much more granular control of my site and I was able to get that with Site5.

The domain, FightingReality.com has also been moved to GoDaddy. I actually liked Brinkster’s domain hosting setup because it would auto-renew for me. I’m still not clear if GoDaddy has that option and from what I’m reading it doesn’t look like it, but I wanted to cancel and remove everything away from Brinkster and GoDaddy had the right price.

Here’s hoping this leads to more updates, more blogging, and more fun!

Toying with the idea

I have this semi-new self-imposed rule that I have to take a picture of any new toys in package before I open it. This is for several reasons. It gives me less incentive to hold on to the packaging for future reference. It also allows me to build an easy to access image archive of toys I own. At the moment, its fairly unorganized and while I do have plans for them in the future, there is no immediate need to organize them. Naturally I’m not going to be motivated to do this without a valid need to do so. Along these lines, I’ve also been considering just uploading them to this site’s gallery for more content. This would also give me the added incentive to organize the collection of images.

One of the downsides to my system is that the boxed and carded toys tend to stack up in large piles before I get the opportunity to actually photograph and open them. I have never been forced to notice this to such a degree that I have been forced to open nearly everything that I don’t already have open, until recently. As I slowly pack my room for my move September 1st, I am only just now realizing just how many toys I never got around to opening. Its a truly staggering revelation.

Time to go open some more toys and immediately pack them.

Yay.

Wishlist Updated 2008.07.30

At the request of a couple people, I updated the wishlist for my birthday.

Didn’t add much since I’m not really looking for much, but I did add a few DVD sets that I’d like. Most specifically the MASK sets. I’m really jonesing for those as I did not know they were released last year and now they are getting really hard to find. Best Buy had no sign of them when I went to look.

Wishlist can be viewed here.

WordPress 2.5

FightingReality.com is now running at WordPress 2.5.

The good news and the bad…

Good News:
We appear to be fully upgraded. You won’t notice much on the front end, but the admin interface is completely reworked and will take some getting used to.

Bad News:
Not sure if its a bug, but I already ran into this issue. Fortunately, someone linked to a quick fix.

My gallery plug-in has fallen victim to incompatibility. The gallery is down and I am looking around for a decent gallery plug-in that functions similarly to the old one.

For someone reason, the log-in page, after logging me in, did not forward me to the admin interface, but instead just gave me a completely blank white screen. I had to manually enter in the url of the admin page.
